A Little Care for Your Creative Heart
Dear Friend,
There are days I see you move out into the world ready to take on anything and everything and I know you can because you are a beautiful force in this life. However, sometimes I notice that you are so focused on what you need to get done, you push yourself beyond your own limits and are left feeling a little overwhelmed and depleted. You care so much for the person or people you are helping or that thing you are creating and you have such heart that I’m not going to tell you to stop because I want you to follow your heart and do what brings you joy. Often the most creative things we do are born from love, so I’m simply going to suggest a few helpful things you might want to incorporate into your day so you can fill your creative well.
Today, let’s:
Take some time to sit quietly. Whether that is sitting by a window or outside, allow yourself to just be. If time is limited, set a timer for 5-10 minutes. Step into the moment. Notice your surroundings. Sometimes I’ll name the things I’m looking at or the things I see as a way to be more present. So my inner dialogue might simply be, “I see a tree, I hear the heat rising in the radiator, I smell my soup.” As you breathe in and out allowing yourself to take things in through your senses, be in the moment and let it lead you to gratitude for the life you get to live and the wonder that’s all around you.
Ask yourself, ‘Am I doing this because I love it?’ Sometimes just noticing how we feel connects us with our intuition which will never ever led us astray. Personally, I know that I can get so caught up in things, that the little voice within gets lost and in turn, I get lost. When we check in with ourselves we can assure that we are moving with intention and doing things that are aligned with our heart.
Grab a Post-it note and write something kind, something you love about someone around you. You can adorn it with little designs, make it a mini-work of art and leave it for that someone. You don’t have to even sign your name, just leave a little note knowing you will bring about a smile, a sense of wonder to another being. Sharing love with others fills us with love too.
Gratitude lists are quite popular but instead of writing a list of words, I’m going to challenge you to draw a list of things that you are grateful for today. Use stick figures. Try to draw things like you did as a kid and make yourself laugh. I used to draw the silliest looking cars but they would crack me up. Tapping into that side of ourselves - connecting with that little kid that is alive and well within - allows you to bring a little creative fun, silliness, magic and even humor to the day. Delight yourself and you will find that your delight is contagious. You just might inspire another to be playful and pass it on.
Take care of your heart and creative soul. Fill your well and share it. You are a wondrous, magical creature and that is something to be shared and celebrated.
With joy,
Natasha
